Winning should not come at the expense of one's humanity or values. Instead, true victory is achieved when athletes uphold ethical behavior, respect their competitors, and inspire others through their actions both on and off the field. It's about how I conduct myself in victory and defeat, treating others with dignity, and staying grounded despite any achievements. This mindset keeps me focused on continuous personal growth and being a positive influence.
Since the age of 9, I've been preparing to become an Olympian. It's the mindset, the mission that drives me to advocate for what I believe in both in everyday life and in the world of sports. Stemming from my interests and social responsibilities, I particularly advocate for a dual career model that supports effective and successful civilian integration, as well as programs focusing on athletes' mental health. Due to the nature of fencing, I also aim to bolster traditional Olympic sports amidst the fierce competition among various sporting disciplines.
I was still a child when I got introduced to the sport by a wonderful person, Uncle Gyuri. He wasn't just a coach or educator to me, many times he was like a father figure, and beside him, he was the child to the most successful Olympic champion ever, Aladár Gerevics. It was hard not to be captivated by the magic and mystery of the Olympics beside him. Today, I'm preparing for my fifth Olympics, having closed the Games with individual victories three times, but the moment when I can step into the arena on the day of the competition comes to my mind every day.
For me, "one for all, all for one" is not just an empty phrase. I love fighting for others, and although I have won individual world, European, and Olympic titles, I primarily consider myself a team player. Over the past 17 years with the national team, we have experienced a lot of joy and success together, and we are now preparing for the greatest challenge in Paris.
After completing a mathematics-focused high school program, I earned degrees in international relations and then psychology. My primary interests lie in understanding human beings and human relationships. I believe in the power of dialogue, and I consider it important that we approach each other with understanding and openness.
I consider it important to leverage the successes achieved in sports for the betterment of society. From the beginning, initiatives supporting the next generation and sustainability have been heavily emphasized in my life. I took on the responsibility two years ago to support my beloved club, the Vasas Sport Club fencing department, with my experience as the president of the department and together with my manager, we established the Hungarian Elite Athletes Advocacy Forum four years ago with the goal of representing the elite athlete community and developing and implementing comprehensive programs to improve their situation.
The team followed an entire Olympic preparation cycle between the Rio and Tokyo Olympics. The nearly four-year-long filming provides a real depiction of an elite athlete's everyday life, joys, and disappointments. Enjoy my journey!
